Monte Palace Gardens on the Island of Madeira can be reached by cable car from the Funchal seafront.
The views from the cable car are wonderful and the gardens are stunning.
There is a new cable car from Monte to the Botanical Gardens, but it is easier to go there by bus or taxi as there is a sloping walk down from Monte to the new cable car and a much longer walk back up as the Botanical Gardens are terraced down a hillside, with an entrance/exit at the top and a bird park and an exit below!
